Hello friends. I have just started my journey in the Linux world about 2-3 months ago. I didn’t know about Alma Linux till date as most of the so-called ‘Linux experts’ on YouTube mainly talk about Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, Pop OS and Debian regarding desktop distros. Today I saw a news from Phoronix (https://www.phoronix.com/news/AMD-AlmaLinux-2024?__cf_chl_rt_tk=J.XabUvU0.1CsdZQxJizeYgWXDs1a4aJqqW1IPlhBcc-1731589265-1.0.1.1-BOOyzxu4P9zW8JHKIjM8YjuTbeKqeXmpVZ6z.FXAQvY) about AMD’s contribution for Alma Linux. As I am a long time AMD fan as well as a long time loyal user, it attracted me instantly and from there, I am here.
I was a Windows user for last 20+ years. But because of Microsoft’s greediness, I turned to Linux as my main OS and I found Fedora as most suitable as it works almost out of the box. ‘Almost’ because GPU. Yes. Finding the proper GPU driver for Linux, specially the Nvidia drivers for older cards, is a hair-tearing experience and if this issue teamed up with installation of Davinci Resolve and making it work, I don’t know what would be more horrific nightmare than that for a first timer like me. But I didn’t give up and changed the card to AMD RX 550. Now everything is working well except Davinci Resolve. Will it need the AMD GPU PRO driver? If yes, how can I find one and install in Alma Linux? My first priority is making Resolve work in Linux. Can you friends here, help me to do this? Because the people in Fedora community just straight away discouraged me from trying to install Davinci Resolve in Fedora, though because of my stubbornness, I finally managed to install it. But Fedora is not my last choice as I am still looking for that distro in which I will be able to make Davinci Resolve work. Please note that I have tested almost all other Linux based video editing software and Davinci Resolve is my choice. Please help me.
