Hi,
I am new to AlmaLinux and also quite unfamiliar using linux OS at all. So sorry in advance if my question is trivial.
I followed the ‘After Installation Guide’ from the wiki to install a driver for my GPU.
(AlmaLinux After-Installation Guide | AlmaLinux Wiki)
The process seemed to have worked out fine, but during reboot I always get the message ‘nvidia kernel module missing falling back to nouveau’.
As far as I understand the problem everything worked out fine except that the process installed the nvidia 550.144.03 driver.
To solve the problem I then tried to install the correct driver using the method described in the
‘HowToSeries’–>‘System Series’–>‘Nvidia:Installation on 9.x’
(A03 R9 ❯ NVIDIA: Installation on 9.x | AlmaLinux Wiki).
I downloaded the correct nvidia driver for my GPU from the official nvidia website and followed the steps of the installation method (Variant 3). But I ran into a problem. When I tried to install the driver in level 3 mode, the installation stopped saying there is already a driver installed. My first reaction was, ‘ok I have to remove all packages from the first installation method first…meaning also getting rid of the wrong driver…and then try it again’. So thats what I did then, but it didn’t change the situation.
Long story short: My question is how can I uninstall the wrong driver via the terminal?
I think the method from Variant III: NVIDIA .run Driver Installation Guide would have worked out fine if I used it in the first place. In init 3 mode I also get the information that my GPU works with the nvidia 390. drivers (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-390.157.run to be precise) but that the installed 550.144.03 driver will ignore my GPU.
Thats why I think that I only need to uninstall everything properly then follow the Variant III: NVIDIA .run - method again to get the correct driver installed.
What are your thoughts? I appreciate your help.
Best regards
