Dear All,
Sadly, my husband Martin passed away from prostate cancer on 16th October 2024. This is why you haven’t heard from him in a while as he was very ill the last few months of his life. Unfortunately, we do not know how to access his computer as we do not know his password. The one left in his password book does not work. Does anyone have any advice for my sons and I how to access his computer?
Thank you
Sarah Rushton, widow of the late Martin Rushton
Hi Sarah,
First, I am so sorry to hear about Martin, and I am glad that you knew you could come here for help.
Second - if he’s running one of the common linux distributions, there are ways that you can manually set or reset a password using something called single-user mode or something similar. If he was running AlmaLinux, you should be able to follow these directions: 33.2. Single-User Mode | Red Hat Product Documentation
Sincerely hope that helps, and let us know if we can help with anything else.
Dear Sarah,
It is Elkhan from the AlmaLinux OS Foundation.
Martin has always been a well-known member of the community, who has always helped us by answering any questions that arose, thanks to his vast experience. I am very sorry to hear this.
I will reach out to you via private message for help resetting the password.
@MartinR , I too have chatted and messaged with Martin on this forum many times. He was always a decent man, kindly responding to others in need of support. He will be sorely missed here too.
I am sad to hear of your loss. 25 years ago I lost my father to cancer.
I am certain you will great support from @lkhn Please continue to follow-up if you need more help.
God bless you all in your time of need.
