I’m trying to figure out if I can install Alma 10 on an industrial computer that is running an i5 8350U CPU. Even the x86-64_v2 version would be fine.
The spec from Intel says it supports the following:
Intel® SSE4.1, Intel® SSE4.2, Intel® AVX2
But there are some other sources that says it does not support all the requirements for x86-64-v2.
I am looking to buy a new industrial computer running in a machine shop, so it needs to be fanless and sealed. I would like to run Alma 10 on it and have found a model running this CPU that looks reasonable. But before I pull the trigger on it I want to verify that it will indeed run Alma 10.

UPDATE: I might be better off with an n100 processor. Similar performance but newer architecture and lower power/heat. Any opinions on that would be appreciated.
The i5 8350U should be fine for AlmaLinux 10. It meets x86-64-v2 requirements, the confusion probably comes from people mixing up v2 and v3. The v2 baseline needs SSE4.1, SSE4.2, POPCNT, LAHF/SAHF, and MOVBE, all of which the 8350U supports. The Intel specs page doesn’t always list every instruction set explicitly but they’re all present on Kaby Lake R.
On the n100 question, that’s also a solid choice. It’s Alder Lake-N so newer architecture, and the TDP is around 6W vs 15W for the 8350U, which matters a lot in a sealed fanless enclosure. Both will run AlmaLinux 10 without issue, but if you’re buying new hardware specifically for this use case the n100 is probably the better pick just for the thermals alone. Performance is similar for the kind of workloads that typically run on industrial machines.
Thank you Rian, I wound up purchasing a little box with the n100 in it. As you correctly pointed out, it runs Alma 10 without issues.
For my purposes it seems like an ideal processor, with it’s low heat generation it works well in the enclosed industrial box. Performance is good enough for what I need, obviously not something you want to run a CAD package on, but pretty good.
I think this little box will last for years to come, it’s very small at about 6”x6” by 1.5” thick. Has 8gig RAM, 256G ssd, both HDMI and old school video, 4 USB ports, and has wifi.
