AlmaLinux 8.7 Server Becoming Unreachable

Hello AlmaLinux Community,

I am running AlmaLinux release 8.7 (Stone Smilodon) on my server with the following kernel version:

4.18.0-425.10.1.el8_7.x86_64

I have several tools installed on my server, including:

  • libselinux-utils-2.9-6.el8.x86_64
  • libselinux-2.9-6.el8.x86_64
  • firewalld-0.9.3-13.el8.noarch
  • iptables-libs-1.8.4-23.el8.x86_64
  • iptables-ebtables-1.8.4-23.el8.x86_64
  • selinux-policy-3.14.3-108.el8_7.1.noarch
  • rpm-plugin-selinux-4.14.3-24.el8_7.x86_64
  • container-selinux-2.229.0-2.module_el8.10.0+3858+6ad51f9f.noarch
  • selinux-policy-targeted-3.14.3-108.el8_7.1.noarch
  • firewalld-filesystem-0.9.3-13.el8.noarch
  • python3-libselinux-2.9-6.el8.x86_64
  • iptables-1.8.4-23.el8.x86_64

I have the following services running on the server:

auditd.service loaded active running Security Auditing Service

Lately, I have been experiencing issues where the server becomes unreachable. When this happens, I have to log in through VMware and perform a power cycle (power off and power on) to restore access. However, the problem recurs after a short period.

Has anyone encountered similar issues or have suggestions on how to diagnose and resolve this problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I do run dnf up on my Almas when updated packages are available. Therefore, my AlmaLinux 8 did switch from 8.7 to 8.8 when 8.8 was released, to 8.9 when 8.9 was released, and to 8.10 when 8.10 was released. Only the latest is ever officially supported.

Fixes on the newer packages could solve some issues. Therefore, the first thing is to update the system.
