Can’t install AlmaLinux on an AMD Athlon 64 x2 machine

I flashed AlmaLinux 10 DVD iso using balenaetcher
System boots on the USB device, loads stuff in memory then when loading is done, after 1 or 2 s , system reboots

I have tried in basic graphic mode too, behavior is the same.
I tried the same with the simple boot iso stuff, result is the same.

Is there a hardware requirement I did not fit? I have checked all what is written here

I have 4Gb memory, BIOS boot, everyting classical

A tons of things install w/o issue on this machine (centos, debian, ubuntu, clearos).

Could you please tell me what can I do?

Alma 10 requires “x86-64-v3” CPU instructions.
There is separate “v2” Alma 10 that can run with mere “x86-64-v2” instructions.

Thxs a lot, I did not get that, I will test
thxs for your help

so I did this test and now I have a kernel panic few seconds after the system displays message “this will not but maintained one day”
both ways, normal install or basic graphics install

so I am still stuck :frowning:

try 9.6 instead then

Thxs, I will test and tell you.

Alma 9 requires the x86-64-v2 too.

Roughly,
if CPU has SSE4 instructions, then it probably has all the x86-64-v2 instructions
if CPU has AVX2 instructions, then it probably has all the x86-64-v3 instructions.

Wikipedia states that “Athlon X2” were introduced 2005 and had SSE3 … enough for AlmaLinux 8, but not enough for x86-64-v2.

and with any of those one can check what the CPU supports. For example, by methods mentioned in cpu architecture - How do I check if my CPU supports x86-64-v2? - Unix & Linux Stack Exchange
