Hello again,
sorry for another post and another silly questions…
I’d like to migrate my Raspberry Pi 5 to AlmaLinux. After I have tranfered the image to a Micro SD card I’d like to change the default user name (almalinux) and the default password (almalinux).
As I would need to change the file “user-data” according to the wiki-document prior first boot I encounter two issues.
- If I insert my SD card into it’s slot it won’t open (AlmaLinux Kitten).
- I must admit, I don’t really understand how to proceed.
I guess formy first issue I need to install some kind of driver to mount the SD card.
To my second issue I wonder if it would be correct to start AlmaLinux by inserting the card, create a new user, add a password and include the new user in the sudoers group, and finally delete the default user?
Thanks and regards
Hi,

Where did you get the image? Let me know the exact URL. I don’t believe the fact you already have a kitten for RPi 5. It might be unofficial thing so we’re not responsible for that.
To my second issue I wonder if it would be correct to start AlmaLinux by inserting the card, create a new user, add a password and include the new user in the sudoers group, and finally delete the default user?
That is also fine. Feel free to choose the method you prefer. user-data method allows you to create users or change passwords non-interactive so it’s very handy. However, you can choose whatever method of course!
Hello metalefty,
thank you very much for your reply.
To question 1: I’m very sorry for not being precise: The RP5 image is of course AlmaLinux 9.4 - the official image. I burned it from an AlmaLinux Kitten machine, and on that machine I cannot see / open the image after burning.
Sorry again!
I don’t know how you burned the image but I believe it should work like this:
