I’ve installed fail2ban before on a CentOS 7 server. I upgraded it to AlmaLinux 8, and here is what happens:
dnf clean all
100 files removed
dnf install fail2ban
AlmaLinux 8 - BaseOS 885 kB/s | 8.5 MB 00:09
AlmaLinux 8 - AppStream 1.7 MB/s | 15 MB 00:08
AlmaLinux 8 - Extras 24 kB/s | 13 kB 00:00
AlmaLinux 8 - Extras Source 2.9 kB/s | 2.5 kB 00:00
AlmaLinux 8 - Plus 566 B/s | 257 B 00:00
AlmaLinux 8 - PowerTools 1.1 MB/s | 4.0 MB 00:03
No match for argument: fail2ban
Error: Unable to find a match: fail2ban
It seems like it should be in the Extras (EPEL) repo. That one is enabled. What am I missing?
Thanks!
Extras isn’t EPEL, you need to enable EPEL.
Looks like it’s installed:
dnf install epel-release
Last metadata expiration check: 0:43:45 ago on Mon 18 Nov 2024 11:22:20 AM EST.
Package epel-release-8-19.el8.noarch is already installed.
Dependencies resolved.
Nothing to do.
Complete!
Though I don’t see EPEL in this list:

Thanks!
I would try dnf reinstall epel-release
That did it! Thank you so much!
