How to install vlc?

Hello. I enabled the epel fedora repo, rpmfusion two repo’s. but when I try to install vlc I go the following error.

[ahmed@alma8 ~]$ sudo dnf install vlc
Last metadata expiration check: 0:02:19 ago on Mon 10 May 2021 08:59:07 PM +04.
Problem: conflicting requests

  • nothing provides needed by vlc-1:3.0.13-1.el8.x86_64
(try to add ‘–skip-broken’ to skip uninstallable packages or ‘–nobest’ to use not only best candidate packages)

Please advice me. And thank you.

One small piece of advice: “–skip-broken” is a good way to break your system. I’ve never heard of it being the right thing to do. As regards VLC, sorry, don’t use it.

Can you please explain why not to use VLC? I will be using alma linux as my workstation and I need it for video playback.

My fault, I wasn’t clear. my last sentence should have been “As regards VLC, sorry, I don’t use it”. Apologies for being ambiguous. :flushed:

This is a RedHat Linux problem.

It seems that EPEL has removed the package that provided You can install this package fluidsynth-libs-1.1.11-6.el8.x86_64.rpm from koji repository,

installing that package, then installing vlc.

So should I just install the rpm package or do you recommend adding the koji repository? I hope there will be no conflict repositories.

You can just install the rpm package.

I installed the rpm package and vlc got installed and working well.
