Intermittent Ping Issue on AlmaLinux 10 in vSphere Environment

In the vSphere environment, AlmaLinux 10 is installed. The firewall is turned off and SELinux is disabled. After configuring the address, when pinging this server from other servers in the same network segment, the connection is intermittent. What might be the cause? Is there anything else that needs to be configured?

Hello.

Please check the following on the server.

• Double-check the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway settings.

• Make sure there are no duplicate IP addresses within the same network.

• Check the vSphere virtual switch, port group, and VLAN settings.

• Make sure there are no duplicate MAC addresses.

• Update the network adapter drivers and VMware Tools to the latest versions.

• Check the ESXi host and physical switch port settings for errors or duplex mismatches.

Hi @howardlee!

Incorrect IP configuration or conflict – mask or gateway outside the subnet or duplicate IP (check with arp -n) causes intermittent responses.

Lack of VMware optimizations – switch vNIC to vmxnet3, install open-vm-tools, and set static IP via NetworkManager/ifcfg for stability.

All the best! :v:

The problem has been solved! I selected CentOS 8 in a higher version of vSphere and reinstalled the system, and it worked normally. It’s not an IP conflict issue. I speculate that the low version of vSphere is incompatible with the AlmaLinux driver. Thank you all for your answers.

I’m glad it was resolved.
