Nslookup issues

Very new to doing this and clearly confused. I signed up with Dynamic DNS (RRD | Marketing, packaging, print & supply chain expertise disaster) to use their DDNS service. On the one hand, it seems to work: The WAN IP address they show on the web site is what I expect. However, when I try to run nslookup using a couple of different servers, it ALWAYS returns a completely different IP number. Not only that, it’s an IP number that fails if nslookup checks it.

I have waited days for it to propagate. The client I use reports that it got the right number. It’s just that nslookup reports something else. I’ve tried both my internet service providers server and Google’s.

Could use some help trying to understand where it’s falling apart.

It almost sounds like the domain has multiple sets of authoritative nameservers, perhaps the original from where you registered (for example GoDaddy), and then whatever you updated them to to use DDNS. You can check by logging into your domain management interface of where you registered the domain or you can see what the internet sees at DNS Propagation Checker - Global DNS Testing Tool.

I’d be happy to take a closer/direct look if you don’t mind DM’ing me the details. I’m @forty in the AlmaLinux chat server
